Adaptogen herbs are a wonderful thing!
By definition, they are a classification of herbs that are non-toxic, produce a nonspecific defensive response to stress, and have a normalizing effect on the body. In short, they help keep proper balance, conserve energy and increase the ability to cope with stress, whether physical, biological, mental or emotional.
Organic Ingredients:
• Eleutherococcus root –IMHO it is the ultimate support to enhance energy and stamina for the stresses of life, strengthens the immune system and enhances mitochondrial activity (the powerhouse of the cells).
• Schisandra berry – wonderful for nervous exhaustion (or insomnia with vivid dreams), this powerful berry has very real effects on the nervous, immune and endocrine systems. It can also help prevent immune system depletion caused by stress.
• Licorice root – one of the more famous adaptogen herbs, licorice has been used as both a food and a medicine. It is wonderful for those with adrenal insufficiency that wake up tired, have elevated cortisol levels and blood sugar levels, and get sick frequently.
• Ashwagandha root – While most adaptogens are stimulating to some aspect of the body, ashwagandha is a little different in that it is a calming adaptogen. It is very effective for anxiety, fatigue, foggy brain, sleepless nights from over-thinking, and nervous exhaustion.
• Oat tops – while technically not an adaptogen, oats are wonderful nutritive herb that has a calming effect on the nerves and helps battle depression.
CAUTION: not for those with heart disease, clinical depression, diabetes, congestive heart failure, edema or low testosterone. It will affect current prescriptions so check with your Naturopath before using.
