3 Things I Learned During Covid
So many things have taken place behind the scenes with the business, with life and with family that I honestly can't even keep track of them anymore!
2020 has been a roller coaster of a year and If I've learned anything these past 6 months it was at least these 3 things.
#1: Life is still short!
This was something I learned years ago but had slowly forgotten. Having the shop was a wonderful challenge and I don’t regret it for one minute but life is short. I was heart broken about closing the doors and honestly wasn’t sure what the next few steps were going to be.
There were some crazy bumps in the road while I made the transition but the whole adventure to online has been amazing. I relaunched the website in January 2020 under a new platform and began laying down the foundation for the upcoming surprises.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been on the ride with me!!
#2: Time Out
Two months after the relaunch Covid hit and shortly after that, Arizona went into lockdown.
I wasn’t really sure how things were going to play out. Afterall, I’d been studying my way through infectious diseases since before my brother took off for Haiti during the 2010 earthquake and Cholera outbreak. Root 2 Route Botanicals & Natural Medicine opened in 2012 with H1N1 as my first Pandemic.
Over the past 8+ years, I have worked my way through countless cases of H1N1 (swine flu), Avian Flu, MERS-CoV, MRSA, and the “seasonal flu”. Even had a few cases of Dengue Fever, ZIKA and Malaria.
Viruses and infections have always fascinated me so when Covid hit I was curious. No one ever expected things to get quite this crazy and, if you put politics and the media aside, I was honestly expecting and preparing for an outbreak that rivaled Ebola (which was just wrapping up its 10th outbreak). Thank heavens that was not the case!
But, I realized I needed a TIME OUT. I was in the middle of an amazing Spring season and things were getting crazy. 17 events were lined up and then when they started cancelling things got even crazier! That TIME OUT came right on time even if I didn’t know it yet =)
#3: My passion for Herbal Medicine and Self-Reliance grew even bigger!
After the dust settled and all this “spare time” started to pop up I was at a total loss. Months of planning, prepping, scheduling, and inventory was literally tossed in the air and all over my office and workshop.
Now what? Well, you may have noticed things have been rather calm lately but those who know me know I don’t collect dust lol. Behind the scenes have been hoping! My passion for the natural world, herbal medicine, homesteading and self-reliance have been burning brighter with every passing day.
The “Time Out” helped turn the ship around and get things going in a new direction. Life is still short and some of the changes have already begun. You may have noticed some of the inventory changes, discontinued lines, over the past few months. The clinic had an overhaul too!
Tea Time Tuesdays and Stir the Pot Thursdays are on Facebook at the moment, the new blog launched a few weeks ago, the R2R Botanicals YouTube Channel just opened up and coming soon? Well, that’s just going to have to be a surprise!
*HINT: If you love learning about herbs, the human body and how they all go together then you are going to love a few of those surprises. Maybe DIY is your thing? That is coming soon too!
But wait! There’s more! And no, I’m not giving out any more hints =)
Loving you all, Emily
